NYC-based independent musician Carter Brady’s love for recording and his prolific songwriting makes him quite adventurous and ambitious to try new things. With this comes the desire to collaborate with multiple musicians, producers, and artists at once, allowing for duel productivity to release new albums and material at a faster rate (while still caring for all of his art to ensure they are well-thought-out final products). While Carter continues to release tons of music under his first last name solo project and full band sound, he decided to reach out to NJ producer and member of Fliq Connor Hanson over the summer of 2024 and see if he had any interest to work together on a handful of songs. The two lined up some sessions that fall and hit it off from the jump, hence the origins of Viib Slide (the band name is supposed to resemble the idea of songs having different vibes on an album, always keeping the listener interested and offering various multidimensional styles of rock for everyone to enjoy). Hanson, known for his masterful production work on NJ rock band Flycatcher’s notable hits Sodas in the Freezer and Games, continues to make a huge impact in the central NJ/Jersey Shore indie music scene, with extensive credits to many up and coming pop, rock, and alternative bands and artists. He and Brady make a great pair in the studio, with both having instinctive musicality on guitar, bass and overall songwriting, always clicking and finding a way to zone in and make each song they work on something they’re proud of, using Carter’s demo as a foundational reference point. Hanson’s studio-as-an-instrument approach and unique production techniques are the perfect amount of methodical and intuitive at the same time, allowing for full array of creativity and fun to be had in every session. Connor’s inclusion of powerhouse session drumming savant and touring vet Santo Rizzolo fleshes out the recording lineup, and the three pair’s combination of sonic elements on each song makes for a wall of sound that you just have to listen to yourself. Viib Slide are the perfect mix of 90s nostalgic revival, midwest emo, and 2010s indie pop, bringing forth a band that encapsulates rock’s best vibes ranging wide and far to every person who comes across their music.
